Free Beer works wonders

There are probably many reasons for big turnouts at the hash. It could have been the spring air, or the chance to run past the festival site, or because the dandelions were in flower? But maybe, just maybe it was the promise of FREE beer that brought 47 hashers to the Working Mens Club in Pilton. We were only 2 short of the all time record of 49 runners at Geoff's 21st Birthday from the Redan Inn, two years ago.

Permission from a couple of friendly landowners allowed a good selection of long and short options with the super-keenies creating more by ignoring the need for flour to set off in search of the sunrise. Those on the short option enjoyed the chance to check it out and were even back in the car park first for a change.

After the run we recovered in the plush upstairs bar of the Working Mens Club and the nice man from Butcombe plied us with free samples of Butcombe Blonde. Andy and Matt had their perfect evening completed by winning the Butcombe t-shirts.

Hash tracking proved every more popular with Steve Neads running with his car GPS in a bum bag and Declan the spaniel borrowing Martin's Forerunner to clock a maximum 3:54 minute mile pace - far too keen!

Next week we are back with Geoff in Chilcompton, no free beer and no birthday cake so maybe less runners?

On On
